FAQ
Prestigious Turf Management fields a number of questions from concerned customers about their lawn, and it's maintenance, in our FAQ section of the website. Please email us if you have a question about your lawn and we will add it to our list of questions and answers. Our lawn care company service area includes; Yorktown, York County, Poquoson, Hampton, Newport News, and Carrollton.
Q: Can I water my lawn after your technician has performed an application?
A: Depending on what was applied, it’s best to wait 48 hours before resuming your irrigation schedule.
Q: It rained after you were here today, will your treatment still work?
A: Yes! We implement an environmentally safe specific bonding agent in our spray applications. It allows the surface tension of grass blades to be broken and promotes adhesion of the liquid to the grass blades. In doing so the compound is sealed to the leaf and practically impossible for residual to rubbed, washed in to the ecosystem or taken off. Our liquid applications are rain fast within 15-30 minutes. If a granular application was applied, rain or irrigate asap which will only benefit allowing it to soak into the soil.
Q: Can my children or animals be out when you’re treating my yard, will it harm them?
A: We love our children and animals there’s no doubt about it, we ask that they be kept off the lawn until the liquid has had time to completely dry roughly 4 hours depending on the environmental conditions. Once liquid has dried and or granular watered in your children can return to the yard while animals are free to roam till their hearts are content!
Q: When can I cut my grass once you’ve applied a treatment?
A: It’s best to wait 48 hours post application to mow your lawn. Please DO NOT bag your clipping as they are a source of vital natural nutrients your turf would like to keep. Don’t forget to sharpen those lawn mower blades every 15-20 hours of use!
Q: Are you licensed, certified, insured and legally allowed to operate?
A: Yes, yes, and yes! We are certified professionals and licensed through the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Our team members greatly exceed in abiding to state and federal laws. Simultaneously we’re proactive in being exemplary stewards of the environment!
Q: Do I need to do any preparation prior to your services?
A: Please unlock any entrances we need access to such as backyard gates/fences. If remembered, please remove any animal bowls and waste. If there is yard furniture or larger decorations or objects on lawn, please temporarily relocate them as well.
AERATION & OVER-SEEDING PACKAGES FAQ’S
Q: What is core aeration, and why does my turf need it?
A: Core aeration involves the removal of small soil plugs or cores out of the lawn. Known as a core aerator, it extracts 1/2 to 3/4-inch diameter cores of soil and deposits them on your lawn. Aeration holes are typically 1-6 inches deep and 2-6 inches apart. Compaction greatly reduces the pore space within the soil that would normally hold air. Roots require oxygen to grow and absorb nutrients and water. Compaction reduces total pore space and the amount of air within the soil. It has a negative impact on nutrient uptake and water infiltration in addition to a physical barrier of root growth and development.
Q: Is there any preparation I (client) need to do before your aeration service?
A: Yes! Please designate the following locations mentioned with small landscape marking flags available from any hardware store near you.
• Depending on when your aeration service is scheduled please cut your lawn to 2 ½”. We promise this will be the ONLY time we ever ask you to cut your turf this low!
• Indicate all sprinkler heads if you have irrigation. Should you have an underground electric animal fence please designate that every 10-12 liner feet as needed. If a company installed the fence, please reach out to them as they may do it for you.
• It is recommended that you “thoroughly” water your turf for two days prior to aeration. Thoroughly meaning 1” of water, you can utilize a tuna can or similar type container to measure irrigation volume and duration needed. Depending on your current soil composition more infrequent watering may be needed due to our consistent clay soil here
Q: Why is your price quote higher than what I was quoted for by another company?
A: Prestigious Turf Management wants what’s best for you, your family and your lawn. To have the pinnacle lawn in your neighborhood takes hard work, meticulous attention to detail with a relentless desire to do things right. Maybe that’s why you’ve chosen us. Aerating is a particularly strenuous physical activity. We don’t just get our machine out run it over your lawn and move to the next. We methodically survey your yard prior to starting and pinpoint troubled areas, high traffic and areas with high soil compaction. Once we do our outline pass, we begin our lateral pass. After that we do another pass perpendicular to the first. Technically your yard will have double the number of plugs that would typically be present post aeration. Allowing double the penetration of the needed air, nutrients and minerals. In turn doubling the amount of root growth potential and your investment!
